Sherburn, South Milford and Saxton
Just into North Yorkshire, we find:
All Saints, Saxton
All Saints, Sherburn-in-Elmet
St Mary's, South Milford
All the churches are in striking distance of the site of the Battle of Towton, a War of the Roses battle of 29 March 1461 (Palm Sunday). All Saints at Saxton has the tomb of Lord Dacre who was killed fighting for the Lancastrians at the Battle of Towton. He is said to be buried in a standing position along with his horse.
